What's your opinion of Fage's 2% Greek Yogurt? It kind of freaks me out when the ingredients say Grade A Pasteurized Skimmed Milk and Cream.. Cream?!
surfnrunnr surfnrunnr Said:

Cream is just milk-fat. When they make milk, they spin out all the fat to make non-fat milk. Then to make 1%, 2%, or whole milk, they add back some of the original fat which is now consolidated in a creamy mixture.  I actually really enjoy Fage 2% Greek yogurt because it’s richer, tastier, and less tart then  the 0%. However it’s about 50 calories more per serving that the 0% so I usually am turned away from  (I don’t like it thatttt much more) purchasing it. I buy it when it’s the only type of sale though! It’s a great substitute for regular ice cream or frozen yogurt though! Try it and see if you prefer the taste or can do without it.

Don’t you hate when this happens? Apparently peach is the most popular flavor. I was sad for a moment b/c I thought the plains for out! Although I don’t think flavored yogurt is a good idea, just wanted to share that Target had frequent sales!

This morning for breakfast was my first time trying fage greek yogurt, and after the first bite I realized I was going to have to eat it slow because of how it tasted. Any ideas as to what to add to fage's for breakfast to kind of mask the taste?

Greek yogurt is so popular these days! However, it’s expensive and if you don’t like the tart taste or dense consistency, there are plenty of other ways to get your protein and calcium! Don’t feel like you HAVE to eat it just because other people do.

But, if you want to give it another try, this is how I fancy-up my plain 0% fage!

  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Banana + Kashi Go Lean
  • Pineapple + lime juice
  • Vanilla protein powder
  • Raisins

I LOVE when Fage or Chobani are on sale for $1! :D better than any lame Black Friday deal! I emailed my friend to let her know.

Broiled Pineapple & Yogurt

Each bite is bursting with flavor, Vitamin C, and protein. How could a dessert get any healthier? (by not adding brown sugar, but I did anyway to follow an online recipe…)

Ingredients

  • Sliced pineapple
  • Canola Oil (Don’t write off the recipe yet! We only use a teensy bit.)
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Brown sugar (again, only a small amount used but adds lot of flavor)
  • Lime

Directions

  • Spray or lightly coat pineapple slices with canola oil
  • Broil for 10 minutes or until tops start to brown
  • Top over plain or Greek yogurt
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar (no more than 1/2 teaspoon)
  • Serve with a lime wedge

Feels like a warm tropical day =)

100 Cal of Salad Dressing vs. Greek Yogurt

Enjoy and experience the taste of fresh vegetables without masking it in oily and sugary salad dressing.

Fage 0% Greek Yogurt : 19g protein, 20% Daily Value of Calcium, 0g Fat, 8g Carbs (lactose sugar)

Salad Dressing: 10 g fat, 3 g Carbs, virtually no vitamins or minerals

My Perfect Breakfast (consumed clockwise)

I eat like a well-bred, parent-fearing Asian…no grain of left in bowl. >.<

  • Fruit: Starting off with a grapefruit
  • Protein: Greek yogurt topped with Kashi Go Lean Original and strawberries
  • Complex Carbs: steel cut oatmeal with cinnamon, sprinkled with crushed cashews
  • Chai Tea <3

Okay so this is a big breakfast, but it kept me full for 5 hours and I didn’t even get hungry or lightheaded around 11am like I usually do. I get hungry and cranky about 3 hours after breakfast and usually just suck it up for another hour until I can eat a good sized lunch, but this kept me going and didn’t make me feel stuffed!

Modifications for dieting:

-1/2 grapefruit, No strawberries, No Kashi Go Lean (tough life), 1/2 cup of yogurt, 1/2 cup of cooked oatmeal

Having a breakfast I look forward to motivates me to not only spring out of bed at 6:15am, but also to get the most out of my work-outs. After exercising, I aim for a breakfast with 30g of protein and fiber to keep me from gorging after working-out and filled throughout the day.

My favorites:

  • Zen Bakery Muffins/Trader Joe’s Cranberry Mango Blueberry Bran Muffins…As delicious as it sounds! (220 Calories, 12 g Fiber, 16g sugar, 6 g Protein)
  • Fage Greek Yogurt 0% + cinnamon + 1/2 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder. The protein powder will mix evenly into the thick yogurt. Fage is my favorite brand because it’s flavor is more neutral and less tart or cheesy than other brands. This makes more versatile and compatible with different flavors. (140 cals, 26g of protein)
  • Peach! (35-50 cals)

The muffin is a little high in sugar, but if there’s a forgivable time for simple carbs, it’s after breakfast :)

Have a great day, defined as doing more good (for your body and others) than harm!

xGeri

I always measure out my greek yogurt before eating! Sometime’s I’m too lazy to clean an extra bowl, so I just eat out of the measuring cup!

What you see: 0% fat greek yogurt, almonds, pumpkin seeds, cinnamon

Why it’s good: protein! healthy fats! cinnamon for flavor and controlling blood sugar!

Breakfast

-wheat bread (sandwich thins), 1/2 tblsp of hazelnut spread, 1/2 tblsp of almond butter, cinnamon, blueberries, random ~1/3 cup of white rice with sesame seeds, 3/4 cup of Chobani 0% fat Greek Yogurt, 16 oz water, ~12 oz green tea

Starting the day off good!
